Default dreaded surge at cruise

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here goes- bolted a pair of iron GT40's, 70mm BBK TB with EGR, Performer upper and lower intake, Shorty headers. Previously had smog and ac delete with no previous CEL. I set initial timing at 14 degrees, and when I first fire the car up, had no CEL, no idle issues. After a short warmup- time to test drive. Car acted ok, but after about 15 minutes, developed a wicked surge, but only at a steady cruise. Smooths out and pulls nice and hard at WOT. Get back to cruise speed, and motor is bucking and surging, no matter what rpm as long as you are at a steady cruise. There is also a slight surge at idle, not nearly as bad as the one at cruise speed. HELP PLEASE!!! CEL light is now always on. Did not runagain after long cool down due to tranny issues(T5)- haven't pulled codes yet

Obvious that you got some smarts. Reason for surge will be found along with cel being on. They are related. Take some time to do all the EEC1V tests. Post results, as anything right now is a guess designed to empty your wallet. I good for one guess.. replace wiring harness(consulted my diagnostic dice available at NAPA).

Yeah- I know its a guessing game at this point. I don't have a scanner or anything. Can our friendly auto parts stores pull codes for ya? Or should I invest in a scanning tool?

the equus scanner (bought mine at oreillys) is really nice, thirty bucks and worth it to me because we have about five cars that it'll work on. I'm sure some guys are going to come in here and spout off about the paper clip method but I'm lazy and enjoy having the code reader do all the work. It can do koeo, koer, constant memory, and even a cylinder balance test, well worth it in my book, also it has a huge glossary of terms and all code definitions in the instruction manual.
