GM 1 Wire Alternator On Foxbody?

Get some pics up of what you have. The 86 v8 is the first time they started putting the regulator on the alt itself and not separately mounted.

I would bet that you don't have the 12v signal wire that energizes the regulator to give it the excitation voltage that you need. It is the light green/red striped wire. There is also a test spot for alternators that have the regulator mounted on them. You ground out that spot and it will cause the alt to charge around the regulator. This tells you the reg is bad or not getting the 12v signal.

Personaly, i would do more research instead trying convert right away. Like bubba said, people hear can walk you through any thing!!

Default 5.0 engine in a 65 galaxie..Alt issues

Having same issue on an alt from an 86 302...Noticed the comment about the grn and red exciter wire??..My question is what should the exciter wire be connected to??..Sorry to sound uninformed but I am cleaning up after someone who rewired this whole engine and modded it to fit into a 65 galaxie..Ive replace cnoind, battry,bought brand new alt, checked all connections, etc...Battery still draining...Thanks in advance for any help!!!!
