Default Another thread about 5.0 idling issues

I bought my 89 GT last week. Prior to buying it I went over the car with him, asked if there were any issues, he basically said it ran perfectly. I specifically asked how it starts and runs in the cold weather. He told me it ran better in colder weather than it did in warm weather, which I thought was odd.

OK, so my first time starting the car without him driving it, and already having it warmed it, the car idles for a second and just dies. The RPMs go up to about 1000 instantly, and as soon as it hits that, it drops down and dies out. If I rev it, it will stay alive, but when I try keeping it constant, lets say at 2k RPMs, it will go up, or down, without me giving any more/less pressure on the pedal. Right before it dies, it idles at about 300 RPMs, and it sounds as if it is dead, and when I press on the gas pedal, before it drops below that, it wakes back up. Yet, it still dies.

It has no problems turning over, at all. It's just when it idles there is an issue. The car has plenty of engine mods done to it. Cams, headers, aluminum heads, etc. If I had to guess, these parts have been on the car for a while. I also do not know if the car has been tuned properly, or tuned at all. When I went for a test ride, the car was at about 2k RPMs, and it would still stumble, and as soon as he gave it gas, it would go with no problem. Now, I'm stating this because I don't know if it's due to such a large car, or if it's a problem in itself. I'm just trying to be as specific as possible.

I heard IACs go bad pretty quickly in these cars? I haven't tried anything yet. I'd like to try the easiest and cheapest fixes first, as I was not planning on spending much money on the engine. That's why I bought the car, actually.

You guys have been of great help to me in the past, and I appreciate any future help as well.

I used to hate when people told me to run codes, but now, after i bought a code reader and saw how helpful it was, i say it all the time. Pull the codes man.

Now on a helpful note, since you bought the car I'm assuming that it runs well when its warmed up?

Yeah I've looked at that. However, a $25 code reader seems so much more simple. Thank you.
