Default engine mounted fuel pump problem!!

Im having some issues with this install. I removed the stock pump from the side of the engine and am trying to put the new one in and it doesnt line up with the holes (its about 1/2 in below them). So at first i though maybe it doesnt fit or is incorrect one, so i went to put the old one back on and it is the exact same. I am able to put the pump into the motor, and then lift it up (compressing that spring loaded arm) but it is not pumping any fuel at all. Im not sure what to do any advice would help!! Its a 85 5.0 if that matters.

you might have air in the line also the spring load issue is normal if you installed the pump so the arm was on the offset side of the pump cam excentric in the motor
