Default Loud clunk sound from underneath my fox..what the??

alright so every time im giving it gas and lets say im in 4th and i let go of the gas pedal, my fox jerks a little and i hear/feel a clunk sound from underneath. my friend suggested it might be the loose u joint and there could be some play in between there.. any suggestions on whats going on??

iv had shifting problems before, but when i took out the floor mat, the clutch pedal was able to go further down and now it shifts fine, before it was a little difficult getting in gear..

thanks for looking.

oh and by the way, looking at getting some bbk shortie headers off of craigslist, i know its a difficult do it yourself job, what would i need to get this job done? sounds like a noob question but im down to learn

Possible "clunk" culprits are:

U-Joint
Loose Exhaust (Bad Hangers)
Control Arm Bushings (Rear)
Fuel tank pump baffle

sounds like an exhaust hanger broke, put your car on ramps/jackstands, climb underneath and wiggle things, it should all be tight, the u joints should have no play, there may be a little in movement from the rear end but other than that it should be solid

i had a problem like that and was driven down the road about 50 - 55 in 4th and went up a hill and i hear a clunk and then a loud bang followed by no clutch or tranny. come to find out i broke my input shaft busted and the retainer sheared off causing me to have no clutch. sucks cuz i havent even put 300 miles on the car and i have gone thru 2 trannys. its parked for now and getn restored and body work. ok to get to the point of why my tranny did that was one of my motor mount bolts got lost somewhere. idk if that is ur case but i would check mounts and trans mount. hope that helps and it dont happen to u like mine did.

I have a clunk to, I put the car up on jack stands and started just rotating the tires and then I found it it would clunk in the diff, do not know why it does it everything looks fine and nothing is loose. It does it when I let on the gas and let off.

when driving let the car rev to like 2k then take your foot off the gas wait for the rpms to drop a little and then get back on the gas. If you hear a clunk, most likely your u joints are out!
