Default Pushrod Tip smashed

Howdy,

I have a new set of edelbrock performer heads and an e cam with 1500 miles on the setup. I was getting a backfire in the intake pkenum. I pulled the valve covers off and i have a bad pushrod which is causing a valve to messup and the backfire. The tip of it looks like it was hit by a sledgehammer.

I was using stock pushrods in the car. The person who did the work is going to just replace the pushrodss with another stock set as he assumed they were faulty and also change the rockers.

Is there a chance metal is in the motor? Also, should I just get hardened rods in there? I have a 2 hour drive home tomorrow assuming the car is ready to be pucked up. I am tempted to have AAA tow it to a real mechanic before something else screws up.

Thoughts?? I feel like the symptoms being treated and not the problem.

Thanks, Dave

I would recommend hardened pushrods, although I do not believe it is required. Did you install the cam? Are they factory rockers?

They are factory rockers and stock length pushrods. If the guy gets it winning today just by a pushrod swap with another factory set, do you think I should risk the drive home with potentially the wrong length rods? Also, I feel that there is a good chance of debri from the one rid in the motor.

Depends on the drive. In your case probably not. Run a couple oil changes through it to get any debris out
