New Gears?

New Gears?
I have a question I hope someone will be able to answer. I have a 95 cobra and I am thinking of changing my rear gears to 3.55, My question is what is a reasonable price to have this done. I have a quote from a place that has done some reputable work for me in the past, but they want $769 to do the job. Does this seem too much or is it about right? Also does anyone recommend changing to an Auburn diff.? They will do the swap with the gears for no extra labor when the gears are out. One last thing does anyone think I should skip and go to 3.73s or stick with 3.55? The car is not a daily driver, but when I do drive it I still want drivability, just need some help in getting it moving quicker!! Sorry so long but any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

769 is high, I know a mustang shop here that installs gears for 200, and you can get a set of gears for 150-200. So, 400-450 is reasonable. I am not sure on what gears you have stock, but if its lower(numerically) than 3.55, I would definitely skip to 3.73's. I was told that with 3.73's in my 03', at 70 mph I would be turning 2500 which isn't bad at all...Good luck

New Gears?
Thanks, I belive that I have 3.08, maybe 3.27 but not real sure. The shop here was going to charge 175 for the gears, 110 for the install kit ( new axle bearings and the like) the rest was labor! Seemed high to me, but I've never had this mod done before and i am limited as to places in town to go. Unless someone knows if a good shop around the Toledo, Ohio area!

stay with 355s with a stick. you can go 373s but it will be a little high.
FRPP 355 gears are 189.69R
Ractech install kit 89.99 or 119.99
these prices are thru summit.
i would also get a girdle it helps strengthen the rearend by pressing on the bearings inside. i have one you can get either a summit one or a trick flow one[ trick flow makes the summit one.]
trick flow girdle are 139.95
and i had a shop do them for 150.00
this should help you out
