Are you kidding me. Is there really nothing to do about it. What would have caused this?

I guess I dont really understand what would have happened. I pulled it then set it aside in a corner of the garage untill I put it back in. Didn't drop it or slam it into anything.

the factory shifter does not have positive stops in it. There is a common failure in the T-45 of the 96+, where itll over shift and jam up internally. It isnt as common of a failure in the T5... but it DOES happen. Dont start forcing stuff, thats how things bend and break. The tailshaft housing needs to be removed from the trans, then the upper cover needs to come off. Once it is opened up, you can move the sliders around and reset the shift forks. then you just seal it up and put it back together.

You make it sound so easy. Is this something I would be able to figure out with some diagrams or do I need to take it to a pro?

if you have NEVER done anything mechanical like this before, I would suggest you bring i to a pro.

If you were anywhere local to me, I'd open it up for you and let you know whats wrong, and it wouldnt cost you all too much either.

So this mite be a stupid question but how do I tell if my sycros are in a nuetral position? I bought some books to help me with this issue and am putting the tranny back together. The book says to have my sycros in nuetral so I can put the top on it. Should i be able to spin the input/output shaft in gear?
