On a friends 71 Monte Carlo put in hei distributor wirh a relay under the hood(more power bigger wire to distributor than with points). So about a month later calls and says he has run battery deab trying to start this 383...Did you flip the kill switch for the ignition........long pause ahh nice talking to you. At least once a year since 02 he calls with a no run. 1 is just a toy with infrequent use. 2 is hell getting old. 3 do not out smart yourself. 4 if installed do not make it painfully obvious you are doing something extra to start car, someone may be observing from a distance. My car would fustrate the heck out of average person trying to take it. PM coming.

When it comes to preventing a theft, it's all about making it more difficult for a thief.
Ways of doing this:
1a) a basic alarm that makes noise
1b) a deluxe alarm that disables the engine (via ignition or fuel)
1c) a premium alarm that has GPS for theft tracking (IE LoJack)
2) a quick release hub that removes the steering wheel
3) a battery disconnect
4) an ignition kill switch
5) use a key with an internal transmitter (factory standard- thanks Ford!)
6) pedal lockout device
With that said, a tow truck is the easiest way to steal a car. The best way to combat this is.... park your car is an area that is difficult for the tow truck to line up with.

I just make it hard as hell to take my car. Disconnectable steering wheel, wheels always turned all the way to one side, and a big *** sticker that tells that this car can be tracked by the maricopa county sheriff's department. Pays to have a sheriff as a dad.
Anyone takes my car and it only takes a simple call to get the car disabled and a location.
