Default NO Brakes...please help!

My master cylinder has been leaking for awhile now, usually i have to fill it up every 3 months and the power in the breaks returns. Now, i just filled it up yesterday and this morning the pedal goes almost to the floor. I checked the MC resevoir and its full, so I know im gonna have to replace it to restore the power in my brakes.

One other thing, do you guys think its a good idea to do the brake booster at the same time, so I don't have to deal with doing the job all over?

Brake booster should be good....those items rarely break. I would go over the whole brake system: MC / brake lines / calibers/ rear pistons / pads & shoes and make sure everything is in good order. Good luck!

Do you see fluid leaking from the master cylinder or presuming because its low, that its the MC leaking? It could be your rear brake cylinders that are leaking if you have rear drum brakes and because they are leaking and worn, will suck air into the the brake lines causing no pedal. The cast iron rear wheel cylinders cost less than 10 bucks a piece.

Its leaking where the MC connects to the booster. I also need to replace my brake pads b/c they just started squeling recently. My car has disc pads in the rear and I was told I have a lincoln 5 lug conversion, so I don't know which pads to get.

You probably have the brakes off a Lincoln Mark VII (7). Take the brakes off and ask the auto parts counter person to match up the pads...I would compare pad with car years 1985-92.....they are probably all the same.

Thats a good idea to just match the pads. I going to get a new MC, a vice to bench bleed, bleeder kit, and some fluid. Anthing else I'll need?

To do this job, do I need to remove the wheels to access the bleeder screws. Also, I'd like to flush the system, but can't find much on how to do it.

thanks guys!

It's easier to remove the wheels...if you don't have a brake bleeder then you have to bleed each wheel by hand....I would start with the rears and then the front. It will take some time to push the old fluid through. Once you start seeing clear fluid....it's flushed. Good luck

I don't have a vise, but if i get a speed bleeder, can I skip bench bleeding the MC?

you can bench bleed the master by hand no tools/bench/vise required, just push the plunger down, I've done it many times and if you have a friend its even easier. I would look very hard down in the brake booster and make sure that there's no fluid sitting in the bottom of it.

if you skip bench bleeding the master you will not be a happy camper and it will take absolutely FOREVER to bleed the brakes vacuum assist or not.
