Cap and rotor ????
im having to replace the cap and rotor about every three months due to Excesive Carbon Build up on the contacts ive try'ed the MSD,ACCEL,Borg warner all with the brass contacts.
What would be causing that
About the car... 1990 5.0 full HCI W/Tune. stock ignition, distributor and a msd coil FRPP 8mm wires. Any insight would help

Get a new distributor, sounds like oil vapor is getting past the bushings inside the distributor, contaminating the contacts and cap. The electrical sparks inside the cap ionizes the oil vapor, turning it a powdery crusty brown or black.

This has come up before. Some people really have a tough time solving it, and most people never get it at all. It seems it's a problem with either oil mist or misture. If there is a vent, remove it, so it's bigger. If there is no vent, try drilling a 3/16" hole in the back of the cap.
