Default Stretched Clutch Cable?

So I finally got my car put back together from a clutch/flywheel replacement and am having troubles getting it into gear. I can only get it into 1st or 2nd and I have to really force it in. I did try to reset the cable adjustment but nothing changed. So im wondering if the cable is just stretched and needs to be replaced. Any ideas???

Ok this is gonna be a long one.

I replaced the clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, pilot bearing and tranny fluid.

I put the tranny in a few weeks ago and had a problem with the shift forks and syncros getting overshifted (i had a post for that awhile ago). So pulled it out again, took it to my distant buddy where we took the tranny apart and put everything right again. When we put it back together everything shifted smooth and looked pretty good. So I got the tranny back in the car yesterday . I also installed a Hurst short throw which I'm told is supposed to prevent this from happening again. Anyway I started the car and I "reset" the clutch cable adjustment but I still couldn't shift through any of the gears. When the car is off I shift through them all just fine but when running it will only go into 1st/2nd when forced in. Which makes me think the clutch isnt working properly. Does all that help tell you something?

Do you still have the stock quadrant?

Yeah quadrant and the cable are still stock parts. It is a 93 so it is old as dirt. Time for a replacement?

go aftermarket. It is a lot easier to replace the quandrent than to put those plastic gears in.

When you replaced the pilot bearing, did you use the same type? Or did you upgrade to a roller? If you loosen all four bolts that hold the trans to the bell housing, what happens? If the trans slides back 1/16", then that's the problem.

Replacing the quadrant is probably a good idea. I like a non-adjustable quadrant and a firewall adjuster. Some people like the stock self adjusting stuff. I don't think it matters - use whatever makes you happy.

The Ford clutch cable is about the best on the market.
