First off, you do NOT need a tune. You need to get everything working properly, which is why you are on here asking questions. Your car should not backfire unless there is a timing issue. Get a timing light and check your base timing. Run a KOEO test too.

So what is base timing? Is there a tag anywhere to tell me?

base timing is 10* BTDC....the right side of the 0 on the balancer.

We checked it but didn't set it because I realized my ratchet was stripped. He said it was at 15*

Its a little high but some cars can get away with 15*. Most run between 12-14*

Pulled plug #3 on the driver's side, and #1 on the passenger side today. Gapped over .60 on both. I'm figuring that the rest are like that. So I bought some Boschs to replace them. Was gonna do it today but my spark plug socket is to thick to get on the head of them. And the headers are too close to get a deep 5/8ths + ratchet. Fuuuu. Hopefully I got it figured out though. Gonna take the socket to my step dad's and grind the walls down a bit so that it fits.

What headers are you running? Return the bosche and get standard autolites and gap at .054.....

BBK longtubes. I looked a little closer at the situation after I posted this and it looks like I'd have room on a few other plugs. But I want to do them all at the same time. Any reason to go Autolites as opposed to the Bosch Platinum +4?

Answered my own question. Did some research and found that Mustang guys haven't been to happy with them. I'm gonna be honest and say I bought them cause they sounded cool. Did I mention I used to have a Honda? Will be returning them later today for some Autolites.
