could be a exhaust leak or pinging, most likely its pinging if its at different times but it could be so many things its hard to tell

I have a similar problem. every so often I get what seems to be a ticking sound, but it seems to be coming from underneath the car. Like I said it comes and go's and when i dp hear it I shut off the engine for a minute of two and then when I re-start it's gone. I was initially hoping that it was the cat's but I'm now running an o/r h pipe so it can't be that any suggestions??

my 89 gt did that when i put my foot into her. So i tighten all the rockers and it kinda stopped by not completly

Are you using dielectric silicon grease in the spark plug boots??
