Default Mustang Gauge Cluster Q's

I have recently removed my stock Gauge cluster and installed a autometer in dash set-up. When I got it finished i noticed that my alternator wasn't charging. I researched that and found that the factory gauge cluster completes the circuit to tell the Voltage Regulator to kick on and off. It has a 500 ohm resistor also. So basicaly im just wondering what would be the best way to complete that circuit to bypass the factory cluster... I have removed the resistor from the cluster but I was just wondering if could splice this resistor between the 2 pins on the plug to complete the circuit or what would be the best way to do it????
