Default AOD shifter linkage messed up

My cousin just bought an 89 hatchback with a 5.0 and an AOD. The shifter linkage is all messed up. If he's in Overdrive, and the shifter moves forward just a little bit, it will slip into Neutral. Also, if he puts it in "1", it will shift through 3rd like normal, instead of staying in first. Its really sloppy.

The previous owner said it had a shift kit, but who knows.

Anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks

no....never seen it before

unhook it, put it in neutral, then hook it back up with the shifter in the neutral position.

is in fact a "aod" or was it possibly swapped with another trans ? aod and aode will say "metric" on the oil pan (i think...lol) very big...you cant miss it. might say "ford metric" i dont remember but something odd...but it's big
