ok i have a 86 gt stock engine with a cold air intake, 3.73 gears and flow masters. over the past couple days Ive noticed a chattering noise from what seems to be coming around where my alternator area but its producing amps so i know its not that. it almost sounds like something is dragging on the ground. it only happens sometimes and when it does its constant. if i turn the car off while its happening and then turn it back on the noise stops. i also ruled out the air conditioning. i think its one of my pulleys. it also might be the water pump? but im not sure. can anyone help me??

take the serp belt off and spin each pulley by hand... find the one making the noise and replace it before you are left stranded

ok ill try that and just wondering, u can start the car with the belt off right? it just wont have ur accessories and ur water pump working so it has to be short, is that right?

I wouldnt have told you to do it if you couldnt.

and as long as its less than 5 minutes or so, you'll be fine. Just watch that temp gauge.
