Default 1995 GT Tranny vibes

I looked as a 1995 Mustang GTS 5-speed tonight. The car was clean and nice, sporting new tires and cold A/C, along with 125,000mi. I've never owned a fast car, this will be my first.... Though I am familiar with acceleration as I just sold my 2002 ZRX1200R and currently race a 2001 CR500R.

What shocked me is that this Mustang didn't really seem incredibly fast, is it clapped out? It wouldn't light the rear tires w/o using the clutch. Also, above ~4500 RPM in the first couple gears there was distinct vibration in the steering wheel and gear shifter. I've read about tranny and harmonic balancer issues with these cars at high mileage. This car appears to be sporting all original components.

The seller is asking $4500, this will be a 3rd car for me. Pass or buy?

The 'stang is stock, and the seller is ~45yo, has a 88 'stang and a new vette in the garage.

Please respond.

not aways. GTS are not as popular as GTs of that bodystyle. for a sleeper look a GTS is a nice find.

fox or sn95 um um um not a hard one to choose....
cruiser......sn95
drag car....fox

I like the car, I'm concerned with the vibration I felt in the steering wheel and gear shifter. It wasn't real bad, but there was a distinst buzz that came around 4500+ RPM. Is this typical? The vibration is RPM related, not speed related. Could this be a motor mount or a worn tranny input shaft?

I don't want a FOX chassis, since they originally came with R-12 freon and keeping the A/C working is a nightmare (IMO).

yeah, converting to 134A is cheap, mine has the original R12 and i say its colder than most 134 systems, and i dont have a problem with mine.

I've never had good long term reliability with converted systems. R12 was nice stuff and cooled better than R134a. Stinking R134a is actually corrosive to some metals and slightly harmful to living organisms, unlike R12. The greenies got convinced that R12 was killing the environment, and didn't realize that the real reason for the demize of R12 was because DuPont & Honeywell began losing money when Mexico started making the refrigerant cheaper.

BTW, I test drove another 1995 GT today, the first one was a lot tighter. I'm gonna hope it's not sold and make an offer (on the first).
