Unhappy Car won't idle

Hey guys,

I just finished rebuilding the motor on my 1986 gt. I started it last night and it started right up and idled fine ~ 750rpm. I went back this morning to start it and it starts only if you give it a little bit of gas, but it won't hold an idle. If you rev it to about 2500 rpms and let off the gas it will hold an idle at around 550rpm for about 30 seconds, then the motor will shut off. It's mass air converted with an A9L computer. The lower end was rebuilt and it has an e-cam, explorer upper, cobra lower, gt40p's, accufab 65mm TB, 24 lb injectors, Pro-m 75mm MAF calibrated for the 24lbrs, 155lph fuel pump, frpp shorties, mac prochamber catless mid pipe, flowmasters mufflers, and a stock air box with a k&n. I've also got a product called "the air adjuster!!" on it, but it is in bypass mode at the moment. The IAC valve seems to be working and I made sure the TPS was adjusted as well, as of now it's set at .992. If anyone has any ideas on what I should look for next, the help would me much appreciated!

take "the adjuster" off and throw it in the garbage.

Perform a PROPER base idle reset, and set your PS between .8v and .9v

Ok, I'll definitley take off the air adjuster. I was looking over the base idle reset instructions and it says to set the idle with the throttle body screw. My accufab TB doesn't have one, and the instructions from them say to not touch the settings on the TB besides the TPS. Should I play with it anyway? Or should I put my old TB back on and set the idle that way?

It definitely does not have a top screw to adjust (like the one on the stock TB pictured in the instructions).. I'll take a picture for you if you'd like. There's an adjustment on the bottom towards the firewall, but the instructions from accufab say the only thing you should be adjusting is the TPS. Hence why I asked if I should play with it anyway or set my idle with the stock TB. Don't be such an ***hole

so, Accufab tells you not to adjust something you dont have?

I too own an accufab throttle body.. and it DOES have a throttle stop screw.

OK, sorry if you're getting technical. The accufab has an adjustment screw, not a top adjustment screw like the instructions for the base idle reset. Accufab says to not touch the only screw it has (which is actually a bolt) because all it does is center the butterfly in the center. They specifically state to not touch the setting of the screw, as it is preset from the factory. If someone could help answer whether or not I should adjust the bolt anyhow, or set idle with the stock TB, I'd appreciate the help.

im pretty sure you are either reading the wrong how to, or reading it incorrectly. YES, you need to adjust that throttle stop screw. You should be making the adjustment while the car is at operating temp, while the IAC is disconnected.

and you should be setting you base idle to ~675 with that throttle stop screw.

"DO NOT ADJUST THE STOP SCREW ON THE THROTTLE BODY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This has been pre-adjusted at the factory to insure a proper “air gap” around the throttle blade in the fully closed position. If by chance this stop screw has been re-adjusted in the field (by those that adjust first and read the instructions last), it may be necessary to return it to Accufab for re-calibration." That's straight from the instructions off of their website, so I'm pretty sure I'm not reading incorrectly or reading the wrong how to. But regardless, I think I'm going to play with it anyway and see how it goes. I'm just going to mark the factory position of the screw and if it doesn't work I'll just put it back to where it was and try something else.
