Default clutch quadrent

ok, ive been racking my brain on how to fix this car, what exactly does the clutch quadrent do?? does it change the shifting pattern at all- anotherwords, does it make it easier/harder(stiffer) to shift by the different notches in the quadrent, does it change the pedal height- engaging and disengaging patterns....... help pls.

it just makes it pull the cable when you press the pedal.
the stock one is adjustable by pulling up on the pedal then pressing it, do this a couple of times and it should adjust it.

if it doesnt adjust it your clutch could be worn out.
where does it grab? 2 inches from the floor or 5-6 inches.

it should grab about 1.5 inches from the floor.

If you think about it, that's the worst place for the clutch to be engaging if you want to be doing any quick shifting. You want the engagement to be up high, so that you don't have to push the pedal far in order to make a shift.

IMHO, the stock 2-piece, self-adjusting quadrant is JUNK!! You're far better off getting a complete one piece quadrant/HD cable/adjuster kit like those available at UPR. Once you've done the swap, the shifting is much better.

I have to mash the clutch pedal to the floor for the clutch to fully disengage/engage. when i adjust the quadrent, it most of the time goes back to either the same place or a 1 click change-which usually makes it harder to shift the car. i have looked at and felt all of the notches on the quadrant and they dont seem to be worn, but, shouldnt it catch all of the notches- theres like 5 different settings on the stock plastic unit. it will only catch on the 4th and 5th notch. im guessing its worn... well, I was adjusting it the other day-I pulled the pedal all the way back- and now the car wont go into any gear. I have looked at everything under the dash on the drivers side and found nothing wrong. I think its a combo of the quadrant and the fork inside the bellhousing or the throwout bearing? i dont know but I get the car towed to my house tomorrow and we are goig to take the tranny out and look into the bellhousing because both the fork and the throwout bearing are inside there. ive takin my tranny out a good five times though so its a piece of cake now. wish me luck but im in no rush with this weeks gas prices around $4 per gallon... haha, u gotta pay to play.

yeah it sounds like the teeth are worn so it goes back to where it was so its a good idea to upgrade to the adjustable clutch cable kit

I just put in a UPR quadrant, cable and firewall adjuster last night. My clutch was doing the same thing. It turns out the stock quadrant teeth were fine but the pawl's teeth were worn down so it would not hold. I got the whole kit from UPR for $75 shipped 2 day air. It is worth every penny. The pawl is a major pain in the butt to get out though. What I eventually did was take a old straight screwdriver and heated the crap out of the end then just burnt thru the plastic pawl. After I got it burnt thru it broke right off. And believe me after dicking with that thing for a while it did not hurt my feelings to see it broken. PS You can throw that thing pretty far if you got a decent arm. I threw it into the woods so hard I think I killed a deer.LOL
