Fourth Gear in the T-5
I have been driving my dad's original owner 1990 LX 5.0 5 speed. We have been having issues with fourth gear. The car has resided in the garage for ten years and we just got it registered for my last day of high school. At first the tranny shifted fine but now it grinds and is hard to get into fourth gear every time, unless I get the rpm WAY down, then it goes in smoothly, also down shifting into fourth is extremely hard and grinds a ton. I have been driving without fourth, but what is causing this?

without taking the transmission apart, anything would be mere speculation.
But i'd be willing to bet its a blocker ring issue. 4th gear is the easiest gear to work on, since its the gear that ties the input shaft to the output shaft directly.
