Default Hanging Revvs??

This is one of the big things that bugs me about my car- when I have the RPM's over 1500 and put it into neutral, right about the time that it gets back to 1500 the rate of travel back to idle drastically slows relative to any RPM over 1500. Is it supposed to do this? Or is there a common remedy for this issue? Thanks!

I'd look into vacuum leaks and cleaning (or replacing) the IAC.

btw, my 89 doesn't do that.

Regards,
Rich

I just got finished replacing all of my vac lines so I am sure there are no leaks there. The IAC sensor was replaced a few months ago, though the voltage is not in the optimal range. Could that be the problem?

he said IAC, not TPS.

And you need to get it between .8v and .9v.

Go perform a PROPER base idle reset.

since you just replaced the vac lines thats what i would be looking at. sounds like a vac leak and since you just had your hands in it it most likely is, make sure all the lines are sealed properly on the ports and an not spit right before the connection from improper size

If not those.. could be intake gaskets.

What ever it is. Its just about gotta be idle control or a vacuum leak.
