I don't think so on those motors. Someone could probably back out the ect sensor and fill it that way though. The sixers from that year do have them.

Fan shroud intact? Fins clean through both radiator and condensor? Any front end mods that impede air flow? Headers increasing underhood heat? How are you filling it? Cap off? You probably need to get it warm, then fill the overflow tank and let it suck up all it wants. Is the overflow tank intact? What psi is your cap rated? Is it old? How old is the water pump? If erroded in the impeller cavity, it will lose efficiency. Belts OK? Tensioner OK? Slippage will hurt you. Are you running a coolant mix or straight water? Mix is better. Two fans? Is primary running without A/C on? Is the thermostat the correct temp? Did you bypass any coolant hoses? Heater bypassed? Stuff like this can cause steam pockets that contribute to overheating. On the remote end of possibility, timing? Air/Fuel ratio? Spark plug heat range correct? Fuel grade? Ethanol content?

That's all I got. I'm sure I missed something worthwhile....

Just wanted to update the thread in case it helps anyone else, or if anyone was following it. Yesterday I drained the system, replaced the CCRM (read about problems with it in other forums and my Haynes manual), replaced the thermostat, refilled and burped the system, and it seems to be running great. I ran it for quite awhile with and without the AC on and the needle never goes above the "R". Thanks everyone for their replies.

I am happy to hear it! As some may have seen, I had a hell of a time with a similar overheating issue (had just bought the car, God only KNEW what the previous folks had done!) Fan clutch, re-burping and ditching those God-forsaken UDP were the key. (Damn you UDP's, DAMN YOU!)

If you do happen to have the issue I would be looking fairly hard at that cap. Mine is a 16PSI unit, not sure what stock is. I checked my old one out by renting the tool from Auto Zone and my old cap was bad. The new cap wasn't the eventual answer, but it did help.

I hope it is all worked out and all is fine sir. Keep us posted!
