Default alternator pulley

I have an 86 that eats alternator pulleys. it seems like there is too much pressure on the belt, thus putting pressure on the alternator pulley and it is augering out the middle of the pulley eventually causing the belt to come off. the tensioner says it is within limits but i have gone through 3 different pulleys. it is an ac car with the smog pump still on it. any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at the pulley from the side. Does it look like the pulley is in alinement with the othe pulleys or is it sitting a bit out of alinement?

the last time it happened, i bought the heaviest duty alternator i could find, it has a pulley with a full shank, not like the stock one. the pulley is in alignment with the others and the best way to describe what is happening is it is putting too much pressure seems like on the belt side so it is basically making the original round hole into an oval and losing tension. the tensioner indicator shows pretty much right in the middle, maybe on the high side.
