Default 91 electrical problem.

I have a 91 and im not sure why my battery gets drained so fast when im in the rpm's its just fine its just at idle or when I push the clutch in everything seems to get dimmer if it doesn't stay around 3k. As soon as I turn anything on like the radio/fan my battery gauge drops dramatically. Ive gotten a bigger altenator installed and it still does the same problem. When im turning the blinkers will flash normally but if im just sitting at a stop light idling they stop flashing altogether and i have to manually move the switch up and down and my radio will just shut off. I thought the problem coulda been when I had my system hooked up but Ive had that out for months now and it still does it. I have no clue about stuff when it comes to electrical. Could it be a short or something somewhere or has anyone else had this same problem? thanks guys.

make sure you dont have underdrive pullies, then you want to check all of your power connections for corrosion, and proper contact.

have you had the battery checked? sometimes a large sound system will drain a battery down and damage a cell if a capacitor is not installed. also do a check for parasitic draw.

What alternator did you have installed?

Check all of your grounds. That is usually a common cause of power issues.

I had a 130 amp alt installed I don't remember the make. I have underdrive pullies but the car has done it since day one even before I got the underdrives put on. Im gonna have the battery checked Monday that could be a possibility cause Im stationed in Italy and the batterys pretty much just sit around for awhile before there sold and when I bought the battery I had to go through 3 of them till I got one that actually worked. As far as a parastic draw is that were you undo the positive and hook the meter to the cable then to the post and start pulling fuses till the light goes out? Then you have to see whats on that fuse and run the wires down for bare spots ect and fix em? thanks guys and ill check the ground and connectors when I go to the shop Monday

If you have a volt meter check your battery voltage.
With the key off your battery should be at least 12vdc.
With the car running at idle no electronics on it should be 13 - 14vdc.
If you start the car and there is little to no change from 12vdc or less then check the alternator it is probably bad or the connections are loose.
Good luck Floyd
