Default t-5 transmission changes,

Im planning to use a t-5 MTX transmission in a project that im currently working on.Still in the preliminary stages right now, but i have a general idea of what im going to do. Basically, I want to run a 3.2L SHO engine in a RWD car to see what she can really do.Originally these engines are transversly mounted(taurus platform) and are limited by a weak transmission (weak differentail and 3rd gear), weakhalfshafts and FWD. TheFWD part leads toterrible launches and poor 60' times. The SHO engine makesits HP up very high so its hard not to spin the tires either. Not exacly sure what im going to use as a car, im just laying out the drivetrain right now.A t-5 trans will bolt up to a SHO engine if the bellhousing off an aerostar (MTX) is used.I have the bellhousing, so all i need now ist-5.With a few other minor modifications you can use a mustang clutch and PP assembly. Ive been browsing ebay for the past few weeks and the t-5s seem to sell anywere from $200-$800 depending on condition. Is ebay the best place to get these things? What years should i look for and what years should I stay away from? How stout are these things? I may add boost in the future and would like to know if the thing is going to hold 400+ HP, torque would be much less, problably around 300ft-lb. Basically, how much abuse can these things take? What are the weak points and what usually goes? Can it handle 7K rpms? The last question i have pertains to gear ratios. I would like be close to the SHO gearbox, just because that was designed specifically for the torque curve and power output of the SHO engine. Are there different gear ratios throught the years? Any webpages that would have this kind of information? Also i know this is used on the 5.0, 289, and the 2.3 or something. What ford vehicles do these include? Would i get the same transmission from a 5.0 mustang or a 2.3? I would problably want one from the lower output 2.3 right (just because its had less stress put on it). Thinkin i may take a trip to the local junkyardand look around, just not sure what cars have em. thanks alot for any information.

later,

Default t-5 transmission changes,

You could go out and by a Ford Festiva and make a SHOGUN. Those are so cool. I also have a sho motor and tranny sitting in a pos sho over here I would like to do the same thing but I am most likely giving it to the junk yard. It has about 203,000 miles on it and it has head work with all new valves. I'm gunna at least try and keep the intake

Default t-5 transmission changes,

you could give me your sho motor and tranny instead of sending them to the junkyard. Yes, the SHOGUN is pretty insane. I think a stock SHOGUN (with the 3.0L) and stock SHO driveline runs a 12.9 and 0-60 in 4.5. The fabrication done to those cars was amazing. Im not up for that right now. Maybe later on in life if/when i get some money. Only 7 were made.

unrelated, but does anyone know if 5.0L aftermarket roller rockers 1.73 will fit the heads of a 3.8L v6 in a taurus?

Default t-5 transmission changes,

you will want a t-5 trany out of a 5.0 because they are built to with stand more torque. i did this conversion that you were talkling about it was easy after i look back at it. i just went in not knowing and well i found out fast. it was in a mustang. it was wild. i sold it to a guy that collects sho's in kentucky and as far as i know it is still runnning. i have a t-5 that would work for you.

Default t-5 transmission changes,

Well....Ford did make an all wheel drive Aerostar minivan. It had an IRS front end. I only saw one, and that was a while ago. Dunno if you could graft the drivetrain to a 'stang.

So the "sideways" engine has the same motor mount pads as the "fore and aft"?
