<FONT size=1>Hey All. I'm new to this forum. I've been everywhere looking for a solution to my problem. This is what's going on. I have a 93 Mustang LX 5.0. It won't start. It cranks but won't fire. I replaced the plugs and the spark plugs wires. Checked spark. Got plenty. Figured it may be the TFI ignition module. Took mine to get it tested. It was fine. Then I checked the distributor for moisture. None. What bothers me is I get spark,my lights work *interior and exterior*, and when I put a battery in that has juice it starts. It took awhile of cranking and pumping before it started, but it started.*BTW my battery has to be dead by now* When it started it was idling high it seemed and when I gased it, black smoke came out of the exhaust. Burning rich? Also, if I didn't constantly keep the gas moving, it would stall out on me.When I drove it, it would not GO it would only putter and stall. I could cruise down the street at 35 mph. But couldn't go faster than that!! Then checked the firing order to make sure I didn't screw that up. All fine.Maybe she's not running on all cylinders. But if I'm getting spark, that wouldn't be the problem, right????? The only problem with the car when I bought it was there was a small gas leak.Oh and minor interior stuff but that'sirrelevant. So I cut the gasline and replaced it. I clamped it and now it's good as new.No leak. Please help me. It's getting me frustrated.</FONT> <edited><editID>DreamStang</editID><editDate>37963.6463888889</editDate></edited>

Also, check if your fuel pump is working. I had similar problems a little bit ago, but no smoke, it turned out my pump was dying. Try turning the key to the ON position a few times before actually turning the car on, and if it then turns on quickly, it should be a bad pump.

Well, it's not the fuel pump. I can hear it turn on when I turn the key on. Someone on another forum said it may be my throttle position sensor and my engine coolant sensor. He said the engine coolant sensor controls my idle speed and the throttle position sensor may be telling my computer that my engine is flooded. I have no idea how old the 02 sensors are. I bought from a old guy that never drove it. How much would the 02 sensors and the TPS cost me?</P>
The stang only has 97,000 miles on it. BTW.</P><edited><editID>DreamStang</editID><editDate>37963.7127083333</editDate></edited>

Well, the more I think about it, it's not the fuel pump, but you should still hear the pump even if it's not working right. When mine was going bad, it would drain, so I had to prime it by turning the key on a few times, then it would start right up.

TPS is a likely causation, common problem on stangs, check timing, firing order. It has to be air/fuel related, so check MAF and TB as well, give everything a good clean out. Check Idle air, and I do think that the O2 sensors and fuel pump could play a factor as well, although minor in comparison to the other problems.

Thanks for the help guys. What's a MAF and a TB? And does anybody kno what the cost of these items will run me. The firing order is good. I have a chilton's manual that helped with that. Sorry but I'm not mechanically inclined. Most of the work done on the car was me and someone helping me. I bought the Stang thinking that that would be a good starter car to wrench on. Also the earlier style 5.0s are bad ***. Thanks again guys.</P><edited><editID>DreamStang</editID><editDate>37964.3109027778</editDate></edited>
