Default Starter Problems

I bought a 93 rolling chassis recently and I have everything wired up and ready to go. However I can not get the car to start. I am getting enough voltage to the starter, if I jump the solenoid with a screwdriver then it turns over. The solenoid is good, if I jump the battery side of the solenoid to the small prong on the solenoid then it turns over. I turned the key to on today and then jumped the solenoid and the car fired right up. I am thinking that it must be the clutch safety switch. Just wanted to check here first before dropping $50 on one. Let me know if I overlooked anything. Thanks!

Here is a pic, I can't wait to fire it up and drive.

you arent getting voltage through the ignition switch to the small wire on the solenoid.

go to www.veryuseful.com and look up your years wiring diagram and back trace your system.

Right, I was assuming that the clutch switch would cause that. Thanks for the link, that definitely is very helpful.

Ok it appears that the only thing the red wire to the solenoid passes through is the clutch switch or the neutral safety switch. So that seems like the answer to me.

Well I tried the clutch switch and it didnt work. Im not sure what else to try? Can anyone help me out. I didn't see a wiring diagram that included the solenoid lead except for the one I posted above.

Probe your leads, see what is getting voltage and what isn't. Work your way back through the system until you find what is and isn't the issue. Remember, you have to make contact in the ignition switch itself too, but it may be something more simple than that

Have you checked to see if you get the 12v through the wire to the switch as you turn the key? Have you done a continuity check on the wire to see if there is a break in the wire? Your problem is easily fixed if you trace and check the wire all the way through the wiring...
