I was told that I needed to contribute something to the forum. So here goes.

This thread is a how to on replacing the quarter window weatherstripping on any fox body Mustang.

I learned this trick from Lee at LMR after destroying 2 sets.

1. removing the old weatherstripping.

Alot of people will just get a pair of vice grips and rip out the old weatherstripping. Bad idea. You can take the window trim off that way. The best way is to use vice grips and a small common (flat) screwdriver to pull it out at the top. Grip it with the vice grips and put the screwdriver in the channel. Slowly twist the screwdriver until the weatherstripping comes out of the channel. Then, using the vice grips gently pull out on the weatherstripping while moving the screwdriver down and twisting the weatherstripping out of the channel. You should be able to get the whole thing out this way. Remember to move your vice grips down as you work your way down.

2. Prepping the channel.

First thing you want to do is clean up the channel. You want to make sure there is no rubber or glue left in there. If there is, you are gonna have a heck of a time getting the new ones in and you will probably rip them. Use an thin flat putty knife to remove any rubber. Use Goo Gone or a paint safe adhesive remover to take off any glue.

You will then need to prep the channel itself to accept the new weatherstripping. You can skip this step if you want to, but you might rip the new ones.

The edges of the channel will have pretty sharp corners. File these down. (You need a small file.) This will help keep you from ripping the new weatherstripping.

3. Prepping the weatherstripping.

Take some dish soap (Yes, dish soap. I used what my wife had on the sink.) Dribble it in the channel on the window trim. Make sure to have some paper or shop towels under the window trim or it will drip out. Be generous, this becomes your adhesive.

Next, put a coat on the weatherstripping where it goes in the channel. Make sure not get it on the rubber that meets the other window. Wipe up any mess you have made at this point.

4. Putting it on and finishing up.

You only get 1 shot at this, so you have to do it right the first time.

Make sure the weatherstripping is straight. Feed it in at the top slowly. Make sure none of the rubber is bunching up. It will tear. Pull the weatherstripping in from the bottom, while holding the top with your other hand. Wiggle the top back and forth while pulling down with your other hand. This will help to keep the rubber from bunching up and ripping. Try to keep the soap off your hands and where you are holding. It makes it slick and you will bust a knuckle like I did. Make sure your towels are under the window trim to catch the excess soap. If you do get some bunching of the rubber, DO NOT try to slide it back out. That will stretch the weatherstripping. Take a small common (flat) screwdriver and feed the rubber in the channel. Slide it all the way down, but do not go past. You will not be able to pull it back up. Clean it up and you are done.

I'm confused. I thought the quarter window trim was attached to the quarter windows, and not removable. Did you mean door windows, or the rear windows in a convertable?
