Default electric temp gauge help

I installed an autometer electric temp gauge...i let the car warm up and it was not reading what the stock gauge was...i moved the wire a little and the gauge went to 250. I didn not put in the temp switch that the gauge came with...could that make it not read what it should? And also can the stock gauge and autometer gauge be connected at the same time?

you need to use the correct sending unit for the gauge. Yes both gauges can work together but you either have to have a T installed to run both sending units or find another place to put the extra sending unit....such as the where back coolant line for the EGR spacer goes into the lower intake....
