Default convertible top not locking?

Today I put down the top on my 91 mustang gt that I bought about a week ago and the top went down fine but when I put it back up the right side locks in place but the left side the little metal hook that hangs and locks into the hole misses the hole and wont lock and when im driving the top is making all kinds of loud noises now since its not locked in place. It looks like the issue may be that the little hook isn't hanging as far down as the hook on the other side of the car...what's weird is they were locked in place fine before I put the hook down

Anybody know what's wrong and how to fix it?

It's jammed up...does the lever move in and out all the way? Make sure your applying enough pressure downward. My 87 vert gave me similar probs but I got it hooked eventually

The lever moves in and out fine it's just the hook isn't hanging down as far as it should to get in the hole.

Your problem is the top frame. A bushing has worn down in one of the joints and is causing the frame to collapse a bit as it's going back up, making it come up short when you go to lock it. Assisting the top with your arms as it's coming up should be a "fix", short of replacing the frame.

I pulled down on the top from the outside and was able to get it to lock!
However for the few minutes I had the car on the engine sounded like it was having trouble running.

you can also adjust the hooks that hook into the windsheild frame. they are threaded.
