im guessing that its about 15-17% slower then its supposed to be. i was doing 45 according to the speedo and got pulled over and told i was doing 56. the speedo needle bounces between 0-20 mph, then evens out after that. the gears and trans are all stock, only mods to the car are a crummy exhaust and a barrel intake and carb. what sort of solutions am i looking at here ?

Driven gear on the speedo cable is probably worn down to the point where it can actually spin slower than the drive gear because it's not fully meshed, sorta like a slipping tranny. Undo the bolt holding the cable & sensor into the transmission and yank it out.. carefully. Inspect both gears.

how do you know its stock ? and what exactly do you mean stock ? 2.73 ? 3.08

what color is the driven gear ? is it all chewed up ?
