Default Oil change question

Ok, I am perplexed. I went to change the oil on my stock 1989 5.0. When I went to drain it, i only got maybe 2 quarts out. Car was level. When I checked the dipstick, after draining but before adding oil, it still showed 1/2-3/4 full. I am thinking either I have the wrong dipstick or something. I added enough oil to get above the full line but am worried.

The car is stock as far as I know, the dipstick looks like this:

been working on older cars a long time and have done my own oil changes forever but this one has me puzzled.

Thoughts?

Did you turn on the car momentarily before the oil change? Thick cold oil will sit in the upper parts of the engine unless it gets pretty warm.

Default Cold

I think the engine was cold when I changed it, I figured I would get some cold non-flow but not 3 qts worth.

2 Drain plugs???? I will have to check.

Thanks

Jeff

I just read the thread about the balancer, good stuff. We only learn by doing I guess and I have a lot of doing to do.
