Inspect the area anyway. The wiring harness has a recall out for melting.

i dont know what a puzzle. Lets shift my brain...
what would make the fuel pump turn on with the key as it should but keep running constant? Then when i turn the key to start the pump shuts off. The fuel pump relay follows it. It clicks once with key on then once when key is turned to start. any ideas?

I'm digging deep to find the particular strategy that EEC-IV uses as far as relay timing during startup, can't find anything worth talking about yet. Possible bad relay, but I'm having a gut feeling that the computer is bad.

First thing I would look for, however, is any possible changes to wiring. My whole theory goes out the window if the relay has been rewired.

Edit: Forgot that it wont fire even with the pump constant. Stored over the winter = mice eat your wires. I'd start with checking the computer wiring in the kick panel, then just take a peek around for any wire looms that look broken or eaten. All else fails, I'll walk you through a wiring diagram and get it figured out.

Last note: The ignition switch is a $10 bet. I think it's one worth taking. Never know...

well 12 hours into it and many ideas and trials we found the problem. The little relay next to the computer. Pulled the out of my car and plugged it into this car and it fired right up. All that over a little box! thanks for all the help guys!
