92 Overheating badly
Hey guys so I recently purchased a 92 gt, its overheating badly, takes about 5 minutes of driving in 80 degree weather and its reaching the N or O in normal on the temp gauge. The gauge is working because coolant will start coming from the overflow and the radiator gets very hot. I did notice that once I came to a stop that the temp went down to about 190-200 at idle and stayed there but as soon as I get on the gas it climbs. Its got a 331 stroker kit/paxton supercharger setup running around 9 psi. Almost positive it has underdrive pulleys. Havnt had a chance to take the t-stat out yet but im planning on starting there. Im new to mustangs though so any help from you guys would be awesome, thanks!

and the temp gauge is actually reaching just above the N in normal at the worst when im on the gas shifting around 3500-4000 RPM, Im confused because I drove it nearly 2 1/2 hours home last week without any temperature readings above normal..

Are you judging it based on the factory temp gauage reading? Or an aftermarket gauge. Because the factory temp gauge is junk. I thought mine was overheating too until I had the temp. tested with an infrared thermometer. Factory gauge was reading 30 degrees hotter. Also, if its cooling down while you are at idle then overheating when you begin to drive this could be an airflow issue rather than a coolant flow issue. Check to see if you have the lower plastic air deflector in place underneath the front of the car. It's there from the factory to help deflect fresh air up into the radiator.

I replaced the t-stat earlier and flushed the old coolant out and refilled with new coolant. Its still overheating and getting up to the 230 degree range when driving and still cooling down rather quick at idle. I do not have electric fans and yes 93MustangFox im going off the factory gauge. I know its probly crap but its deff overheating with the overflow bottle filling within a matter of minutes of driving. The weird thing was today after I replaced the t-stat I noticed after I drove it around the block, overflow was full and motor was very hot but the radiator cap was not hot at all and didnt have much pressure. The air deflector is in place also.

my first guess is Tstat, then radiator
the rad can look perfect...but if its rotting inside...it wont flow well
there are VERY cheap replacements that are lifetime warrantied, you dont need a "be cool" or some other $500 rad...the cheap one is just fine
