Default 1991 GT Rear Diff Question?

Just bought a set off 3.55's to have installed in rear. Just purchased car with 60k original miles on it. Only had it a week and have noticed the rear whines. Mechanic went to install ring & pinion and told me there were a lot of metal shavings in fluid. Said the bearings were pitted and need replacement. Question is this was a stock rear with original 308's. Is this normal wear and tear for 60k or would you say caused by abuse?

bearings go out, it's a fact, whether it happens at 30 k or a 100k makes no difference, sometimes parts are defective, I doubt abuse unless you know previous owners

I'm the third owner. First was an older woman n second was a collector who put 900 miles on it in 5 yrs. the car by most accounts looks very well maintained for being 21 yrs old.

then I'd just say it happened because a bearing gave up the ghost, I've had them last longer and the flip side last less
