Default broken crankshaft?

it is very unfortunate that i ended up breaking my crankshaft while on the highway. the crankshaft pulley is completely loose. what else might of broken in the engine? i haven't taken it apart to see the real damage. I don't know if its going to need a new block or just a complete rebuild. what do ya'll think?

wow thats a new one on me. Any kind of damage could have occurred.
Im assuming there was a loud bang accompanying this failure?
Id say worst is cracked block . But could just need new crank/and or bearings , rods. probly a crankshaft main bearing alignment bore ( or at least have it checked) . most likely can get it rebuilt, but you are likely to need some machine work done.

well it happened when i dropped it from 4th to 3rd and popped the clutch hard and slammed the gas peddle...a few seconds later i heard a loud hissing sound, vibration and then a pop. block doesn't seem to be cracked but i need to take it out to see for sure. i know for sure the oil pan gave out cuz theres a big gash on it.

this could be catastrophic for that block. High rpm when the crank snapped= more damage. Check this link out with some nice pics of the possibilities.

i hope thats the case. it felt like if the engine locked up on me and it was hard to shift it into neutral when it popped on me. i had notice the following a few weeks back...oil pressure would suddenly drop completely while driving or idle (probably faulty gauge known on fox bodies), engine starting pinging and rattling at 1,900 to 2,100 rpm (wouldn't ping or rattle if i stomped the peddle), and i also noticed the balancer shaking a bit at idle.

i will find out more this weekend when i tear it apart.

well, new engine block is needed now. main cap bolt and seal broke off. timing chain and timing cover broke and a piece of the engine block broke off too.

bummer i feel for ya man.
If im not mistaken the 69-74 351w blocks are all good and after that they took some meat out of the main webbing. the 94 and up are all roller moters I think but you can get a early block and use some solid lifters and a roller cam. You could even think about a stroker kit for it and go to a 408 or even a 427 .The 69 block if its a 4v was making 290 hp stock. after that it went down.
