Default How to Remove Flywheel?

I need to have it resurfaced before i get my new clutch in. I can't get the stupid bolts loose though. The engine keeps turning when i try to loosen them. I had a buddy try and hold the crank bolt but he couldn't keep it from turning. I don't have any air tools or anything like that so i'm just using a really heavy 2'-3' breaker bar.

Any ideas?

I think there is some locktite on those bolts. You could try applying some heat to the head of the bolt with a propane torch to free it up

There will be locktite on them probly blue. Heating the heads of the bolts up will help loosen the locktite up. If you cant stop the engine from turning by holding the balancer nut then there is definatly locktite on it. Heat will loosen it. trust me

you dont need to get them red hot just hot enough that the loctite loosens a bit.

If you use a torch on those bolts, be prepared to melt the rear main seal. Safest route would be a friend with a portable electric impact gun, or possibly buy one.

That would be a no on the tourch because of the rear seal i agree. in place of trying to hold the bolt on the front you should be able to wedge a large flat screwdriver in the teeth of the wheel. put a bolt in one of the bell holes and use that as a wedge point. better than a screw driver is a pry bar but it depends on the tools you have available

Harbor Frieght sells a fly wheel turning tool thatll grab the teeth in 2 places for like 10 bucks.........or craftsmen for probably like 20. Whichever way you go (buying the tool or a pry bar) don't bitch up the teeth on the flywheel or it'll cause ya problems later.
