Mine did it, it was the starter solenoid relay on the driver's side strut tower. To test the theory start the car, if it keeps cranking over grab a medium size screw driver by the tip and slap the handle against the side of the switch 2 or 3 times. That took care of mine every time.

The switch sticking was attributed to a weak battery, in my particular instance.

My OE solenoid went out like 3 years ago and the first replacement was defective. Just last year it stuck again (used beer bottle at grocery store to tap solenoid) and the first replacement was defective and the second one was good.

I still want to eventually change it out for a OE one. I've read many other threads about new aftermarket solenoids being defective.

just bought my second new starter solonoid. seems to have fixed problem. started car about 20 times now with no problems. those starter solonoids from advance auto must be junk.

with advaced auto and autozone you have to check the parts your buyin before you leave the store. Alot of times pple will buy it and screwit up then return it and the store just puts it back in the box and up on the shelf to sell again.
If it looks like its been opened our installed on something request a different one.
Bad grounds are an electronic killer also. A poorly grounded cable will cause the starter and solenoid to pull alot of amps. Ive seen a bad ground smoke cables and solenoids .

Doesn't the ignition switch provide power to the solenoid? If you turn the key back to off and out and it's still cranking, to me that means power is still being provided to the solenoid. I wonder if your new ignition switch was faulty?
