Solenoid problem?

Solenoid problem?
I have an 86 GT that has had trouble starting for the past year now. It has a new starter and battery. When I try to start it right now, it won't even turn over. When I jump it, it starts right up. The only thing I think it could be is the solenoid, what do you guys think? I have tried it with a few different batteries, and it won't crank with any of them. As soon as the cables are hooked up it fires up on the first try and everything works fine. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks

Solenoid problem?
Are you hooking the negative jumper cable to the battery or somewhere else? If the answer is somewhere else, you must have a bad neg. cable on the batt. Or if you are by chance hooking the pos. somewhere else then you must have a bad pos. cable. I can't think of any other possibility.

Solenoid problem?
One other thing to think about is along the same lines as the previous post is connections or a weak field on the starter. With the connections(IE hot side and switched side of solenoid, battery, and starter) If one of these connections is weak...increased resistance inturn decreases current to starter, however jump boosts current. Other thought is along same lines, the field polarity is weakening in the starter, decreases torque until more current is applied and inturn increases torque by increasing field.
