seriously though dont drive it any more ... or start it for that matter .
You cant get the oil pump shaft out from the top it has to come out after the pump is removed.
As far as a pump going bad like that , it could happen but usually they get weak first. If the oil pump drive shaft snapped then yea you instanly loose oil pressure.
Regardless of if the pump went bad or not you have to pull it to check the shaft, and thats a good time to replace it with a new one.

I'm hoping it's the shaft or pump, because I wouldn't even know where to start cleaning out passages.

I was literally 2 minutes out of the driveway, driving it back didnt bother me too much. the engine was still cold-ish.

The motor has a hard 140,000 on it, I am only trying to make it last until I can get my hands on another 351 or aftermarket block.

I parked it that day and have not touched it since. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. To my knowledge it was running strong. this was all kind of sudden.

Is your oil pan dented by chance? If its dented anywhere near the pick up, that could cause oil flow issues.

That is a great suggestion. Sounds like something that would have me guessing for months.

Anyway, thanks guys for the help, but I have decided to go on and get a 306 short block and move everything I want to keep over and sell the rest.
