Default Exhaust Fumes in Car- Suggestions?

I've had a problem with really bad exhaust fumes in my car since i bought it. If i'm really light on the gas it doesn't really stink too bad but if i drive like my normal leadfoot self it starts to smell pretty strong inside the car. And if i really get on the gas it just stinks bad like straight exhaust. When i had the stock h-pipe on the car it smelled like exhaust too and it still passed smog then so it's not an exhaust leak. Now there's an offroad h-pipe on it and it still smells like it did before. If it's not an exhaust leak what could it be?

What are some likely places to seal off the smell? I just sealed off the shifter opening with caulking but it didn't do me any good. It stinks with the windows up or down. It might smell a bit more with the windows up actually.

Any suggestions?

I suggest you find the exhaust leak. The laws of physics demand that you have a leak close to the HVAC vents to be able to smell exhaust inside the car with the windows up.

Wow that sounded dumb now that i read it again. I didn't mean what vent inside the car. I meant what vent is there around the exhaust?

It pics up air at your cowl area. Exhaust from underneath also will come through the floor where there are holes, like the shifter.

Nope. O/R h-pipe and flowmasters but i had this problem even with the factory h-pipe on it.

I have yet to find the source of the smell. I'll check the spare tire compartment today but last time i looked i didn't see any holes. meh

Did you check for exhaust leaks? If you're smelling it in the car like that it has to be leaking somewhere. If your exhaust has no leaks in it, which you say passing smog=no leaks, it will not smell inside the car.
