now go to your local toy store and get a can of play dough so you can measure for ptv that of course is if you haven't bolted/torqued the heads down, I use a old head gasket for mock up of the same thickness of the one I will use in final assembly, I took my daughters play dough for my current project, hope she doesn't miss it..lol

The heads are torqued down since I was trying to measure the pushrods. I have checked w Probe Industries on how much lift the pistons can be used with (.600), should I still measure them? I have .579/.579 valve lift

You absolutely need to check P/V clearance.
A pair of head gaskets is way cheaper than the engine.
Also check for lateral clearance around those valves.....

The clay method seems the most popular and I already own a dial caliper.

Have you used the method where the head stays on, and you rotate the motor until you are on the end of the exhaust/beginning of intake, and let the valves drop into the cylinder? Then measure the distance in between the rocker arm and valve stem with a feeler gauge? I would have to measure multiple times but I wouldnt have to take the heads off

Again, thanks for all the help guys

nope never tried that, that may be okay for vertical ptv but won't tell you much for radial ptv.
