Spark plugs for 5.0..dont fit in my 5.0..

Upon further research I also found that the GT40 and GT40P heads use a different plug with longer threads, almost twice as long as other 5.0 heads such as the E7's.
Search up how to identify GT40 heads and you will find easily seen markings and casting # listings. The three verticle bars on the end of the heads is a sign of GT40 and 4 bars is gt40p. Read this, there is links to pics of what I mean that may help you.

I asked what he wanted for the heads he pulled since he thinks they are junk that no one makes plugs for. Lol!
I would have thought even the dumbest mechanics could figure out to check casting numbers and do some research. Guess I was wrong.

Thats kind of what I told him but he apparently believes him over me. He pulled the heads and bought E7's to put on the car instead.

I thought in order to become a certified tech you had to be able to read. Maybe they dont teach them to look things up on their own anymore.
What........... Theres nowhere to plug in a scanner!!!!! You mean I have to get dirty to diagnose and identify this?
Thats it throw it away and buy new stuff..............

What gets me is the whole......ford doesn't make a plug for a "ford" head therefore we need to take those heads off, put a lesser performing head on that we know we can get a plug for............this thread almost ranks right up there with the "joke thread" of a guy who flushed his engine with a garden hose.......now if you are totally serious about what is going on, then I feel really bad for the guy who bought your car and has put his blind faith in that shop......anyone and I mean anyone that has a head on their shoulders would of come back with a comment to the service advisor of something like this: Are you crazy?? red flags should of gone up in the new owners mind......oh well to him, guess he has more money than sense.
I was even told that they said it had to be a triton truck engine because it cant be a 5.0L.
Now I understand that a HD mechanic might not know much about Ford engines but really?
Common sense says read the numbers, do your research, etc. If all else fails find someone who has a little ford knowledge.
But its not my money they are wasting. Haha!

Oh im completely serious. Apparently its a licensed heavy duty mechanic friend of his that works for the local Kenworth shop. I guess they even had another tech that works with him look at it and both came to the conclusion that its not a 5.0 because the two different plugs that they tried from napa and another parts store didnt fit.

which is why they should not be working on it ie.. "heavy truck mechanic" things must be slow for them to step outside of their element.......heck even I know my limitations such as a few f-350 6.0/7.3 diesels that come into my shop, while I do a lot of stuff to them, when it gets into tearing the motor apart or working on the internals of them.....I send them up the road to a diesel specialist, I mean I hate to sub out work but rather than cost my customer twice as much, I send it to someone who knows what they are doing rather than throw a dart with a blindfold on
Even after I told him to try plugs for a 93-95 Cobra or a 96-2000 Explorer he still said I was wrong and he wasnt going to waste his time or money on more plugs. Guess heads and unknowledgeable mechanics are cheaper than even one plug......
I even offered to take a plug over and put it in myself just to show him. But he didnt feel like going over to the shop and waste his time.
