annoying squeal
i just bought a 88 lx from a friend of mine and this morning when i started it the car started squealing.the battery light was flashing and went aw but the squeal is stil there.we just had a joke of a hurricane here in ma so i figured it was the belt.took the belt off and started car to see if it was a pulley and the squeal is stil there.so i know its not the pulleys or the water pump.it does it idling and moving so im kinda lost as to what it would be.any help would be awesome.

yep seariously put up a clip of the sound..Sometimes a vacuum leak can whistle loud enough to sound like a squeel. espesially if its leaking between the upper and lower intake the gasket can act like a reed

well thats not good ... with no belt on it and a squeeling sound coming from under the engine Im hesitant to even have you start it long enough to get a sound clip of it. How was your oil pressure before all this started? Not to get you worried but a spun crank bearing will sometimes squeel as its burning up. But just to go threw a few other things here , if someone used an exhaust adaptor in the exahust pipes someplace Ive heard those whistle and sound like a squeeling noise as the exhaust passes over the lip of the adaptor. A bad throw out bearing will squeel also. I guess youll have to start it for a short period and try to pinpoint the location

Pretty sure I figured it out.true other day I had no choice but to drive it to work.it was only a few miles so I went for it.I started it squeel was there.I drove down the road and heard a little pop and squeel went away.I went to start it later and the starter made a grinding sound I tried again car fired up.I tried to start the car later in the evening and it wouldn't start so I went to hit the starter with a hammer and it was moving.tightened it and no problems since.mabye the starter was loose enough for the nose cone to rub the flywheel?
