no they don't with the right tool.......most here haven't a clue what the right tool is......I have a small slap hammer with a end that has expanding jaws, there is a small cut out on the inner solid cage where the jaws are made to grab once the small needle cage is removed.....takes me no more than a minute with the proper tool....either way what ever works for the harry homeowner..so be it.

I hated my pilot bearing. Surprised you didn't break the tool. I went through 3 pilot bearing tools before I finally decided to dremel and chisel the thing out.

Use bread..........Yes bread......break the bread into small pieces pack the crank full past the race; then get a socket that fits the inside the race with a extension. using a hammer hit the extension keep packing the crank full; it will pop the race out with no damage to anything. Ive done this several time. you can also see this on Youtube.

My crank has two in it..... or 1-1/2......I got in a hurry on the way to the machine shop and just drove it on in. As far as I know it won't hurt a thing.
