To see if the distributor was installed correctly, remove the #1 spark plug and the coil wire so it won't try to crank. Put a finger over the spark plug hole and have someone in the car bump the starter slowly until the compression stroke pushes your finger off the spark plug hole, that' TDC. The rotor button should now be pointing to #1 wire on the cap. If it's not rewire it like this...http://www.fiveohinfo.com/fox/ignition.html

NO don't crank the engine with the dizzy part way out. It will drop in you may have to turn it slightly as it drops in.

Update: The original shop was open today to my surprise. I got the car towed in and they fixed it. The did what I really didnt wanna do(especially since I do not have a garage and its snowing today) and reset the distributer and timed it. Running great again!
