5.0L (1979-1995) Mustang Technical discussions on 5.0 Liter Mustangs within. This does not include the 5.0 from the 2011 Mustang GT. That information is in the 2005-1011 section.

Finally back with some 5.0 questions!

Default Finally back with some 5.0 questions!

And I welcome myself back into Mustang world. I ended up getting a great job, and currently buying a guys 5.0 long block. :-)
Just have a few small questions, obviously.
I did want to put that block with a small cam, and do the heads over. I did want to get the block "fixed" for a lack of better terms. Just polished, and honed. This is going to be my first engine drop into a 5.0 shell, so I just needed a few pointers. This is going to be a very slow build, and I WILL be posting pictures.

As for electrical, which is what I'm most worried about. Is there anything I should be looking for when buying a new wiring harness for the shell? It is an EFI 88-93 motor if I can remember correctly.

Is there a difference between the mustang 5.0s, and explorer 5.0s? AKA heads, bore and stuff like that?

The Mustang 5.0 HO 88-93 has forged internals that the Explorer doesn't. The Explorer 5.0 HO 97-98 does have some upgrades that the GT doesn't however. It came with the equivalent to the 93 Cobra intake and heads, that flows pretty good, not as good as aftermarket heads and intake though. Here's the technical info/history of the foxbody mustang...http://phystutor.tripod.com/stang/engines/50.html

88-93 Mustang 5.0's have forged piston/rods.
They still have a cast crank...........
