@Mattdel,
Is it? I would love a second opinion. The timing is not to advanced, the fuel pressure is perfect, the air/fuel ratio is spot on, I run 93 Octane, the fuel filter is new, and for the record, the entire ignition system is new:distributor, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, msd coil, even the ignition module(unrelated)..Oh and the car runs at correct temperatures.
So I really want to figure this out...cause it is losing some ponies when it pings....After rading this post, do you have any other suggestions as to what is causing it?...Thanks

Have you calculated what your compression ratio is? The more compression you have, the less timing you can use without force-fed intake cooling, like a Nitrous motor with alcohol/water cooling, which is why engines with more-than-normal carbon buildup on valves/pistons will ping with seemingly no cause. More carbon = less combustion chamber = higher compression = pinging with barely any timing advance.
Whether that ring true for your engine, is anyone's guess. I would assume no, since I also assume that this engine was torn down and cleaned during the clone process, but.. you never know.

Mattdel,
Your post was well put, AND your asumption is correct. The motor was completely rebuilt, heads cleaned up etc. 15k ago. So I doubt its that Heres the thing tho, it seems to do it intermittently(the pinging) that is. When its nice and cold out, it seems to do it even less....I just dont know.....maybe Ill clean the maf again..

Take a peek at it and see what color the wire inside is. It should be as white as a fresh piece of paper. Also, don't use any chlorinated materials to clean it, like carb/brake cleaner. Most parts stores carry MAF cleaner in the CRC brandname.

I have cleaned it before but, only by spraying through the sampler tube, never removing the maf itself, as I dont have a torx #20. I will borrow a neighbors and remove the sensor, and actually clean it more thoroughly. I do have the maf cleaner btw. Wish me luck. lol
