Default charging issues

The alternator puts out 14.6 volts at idle with all loads off. If I turn my headlights on and blower on high the alternator only puts out 12.6 volts at idle and 13.4 if I rev the engine to 1500 RPMs. I replaced the battery, alternator and stator winding plug on the top of the alternator. I drop tested both battery cables and they didn't drop any voltage. Any ideas?

It doesn't seem like you have a problem to me that you needed to change any parts. What are the problems you are having?

If you turn things on of course you are going to put a load on the charging system. At idle your alternator isn't spinning fast and it won't put out as much as when you rev the engine. The faster your engine rpms run up the faster your alternator rpms run up. That's why the voltage goes up and down according to the engine rpms.

Your output voltages are where they need to be for how and when you are testing.

Stock fox alt's are rated at 75 amps. Today's high powered lights + blower + everything else running is close to that threshold, thus why 3G alt conversions are popular for foxes.

The alternator should be able to maintain above 13 volts at idle even with the extra 25 or so amp load on the system.. The battery in the car was installed at the same time I did the alternator.. Also I have nothing else load bearing installed on the car- stock lights, no special sound system.. No under drive pullies..

you need to understand an alts output is all rpm dependent, there is no "it should" maintain above 13 volts with said load when using a 2g style alt. Convert to a 3g style for better results or change the pulley on the alt so it spins faster at an idle.

Your not having a problem at all this is pretty normal voltage at idle while running lights and blower. My 94 does the same thing even with the higher amp alternator on it. As long as it never drops below 12 volts and you never see the charge light come on or have problem starting the car I wouldn't even sweat it.

Spend the money get a 3G alternator and a wire upgrade just did mine last night had the same problem.
I can turn my lights, heater, fogs, brake lights, and blinker
no power lose its freaking great. the old 2G's are lame! even with barley running the car lol
my old 2G with the brake on and in gear would amost die is seemed.
so spend about 200 and have the power you need.
I went with the
http://www.americanmuscle.com/130amp...ator-8793.html
no extra mods for charging system yet but now that I have the power
fans, system, lights coming soon.
even sounds much better......
